September 19, 2003 By: Tammy Rempel A few ways you can help prevent credit card fraudAs a consumer, you probably know that experiencing credit card fraud would a horrible experience. Together with the lending companies and financial institutions, there are a few things that can help credit card fraud. To have someone totally unauthorized to use your credit is becoming harder and harder to do, but occasionally it still happens. A couple of things you can do to help is firstly to use a lot of common sense. If you have any doubts about whether the company or store is legitimate – do your research. It wouldn’t take much to get some details in order to find this out – for example the better business bureau. When it comes to personal credit card fraud, make sure that you are not giving out your number to anyone else. And if it happens to become lost or stolen, you need to report it immediately. Lending companies generally have implemented security operating policies that are strictly abided by in order to diminish credit card fraud. They also demand that merchants meet this standard so that we as the consumer know the security operations are in tact. If you are curious how each of the companies handle this situation, generally there is a link on the individual sites that will give you more information.
