Obtain your own personal credit report and find out what your creditors know about you. Your credit is your reputation for solvency and integrity entitling you to be trusted in buying or borrowing. Therefore, it is extremely important for your to review and maintain your personal credit report.

Along with your credit and payment history, your personal credit report contains information such as, social security number, address, employment information, public record items in your name, if they exist, such as:
* Tax liens (reported for 7 years after the lien is filed)
* Judgments (reported for 7 years after the judgment is entered)
* Chapter 7 bankruptcies (reported for 10 years following the bankruptcy)
* Chapter 13 bankruptcies (reported for 7 years following the bankruptcy)

The credit reporting agencies compile the information gathered from various creditors and human error can occur. As high as 50% of personal credit report may contain errors. As your credit report is your reputation describing your character and quality, it is not only your responsibility, but it is in your best interest to ensure the accuracy of your personal credit report.
